The Rural Municipality of East Kildonan was formed in 1914 and at the time included the area of Old Kildonan. The two municipalities divided in 1925 and maintained separate Police forces. In 1972, the the East Kildonan Police (39 members) absorbed the North Kildonan Police (18 members) in preparation for the complete amalgamation of all forces into the City of Winnipeg Police in 1974. St. Boniface was established as a mainly French speaking village on the east side of the Red River in the early fur trading days. It became a municipality in 1880 and appointed it’s first Policeman in 1881. The St. Boniface Police Department had 51 members when it amalgamated with the Winnipeg Police on October 21, 1974.
