Le travail policier comporte de nombreux dangers. Un de ceux-ci est le risque permanent d'accident du policier patrouilleur.
Les gens croient bien souvent à tort que le travail de patrouilleur est de tout repos. Assis confortablement dans leur gros véhicules, ils se promènent toute la journée en distribuant des contraventions.
Le travail de patrouilleur c'est aussi, et surtout, d'assurer la protection de la population, de combattre le crime et d'être présent dans toutes situations de conflit et de danger.
Le patrouilleur doit répondre constamment à des appels d'urgence. Lors de la réception de tels appels, il doit présumer que la situation est telle qu'il doive se diriger tout gyrophares et sirènes allumés sur les lieux de l'intervention et ce même s'il devait s'avérer qu'il a répondu à une fausse alerte.
Grâce à un entraînement des plus rigoureux, il est en mesure de maîtriser le comportement de son véhicule dans les situations les plus complexes de la circulation urbaine. Il peut ainsi accomplir sa tâche le plus sécuritairement possible tant pour les autres usagés de la route que pour lui-même.
Il en est de même dans les situations extrêmes de poursuites à haute vitesse. L'adrénaline contribue à éveiller tous les sens du policier qui doit constamment composer avec sa mission et le risque qu'il court ou fait courir aux citoyens.
Malgré sa dextérité, sa compétence, son sang froid, ses réflexes aiguisés, il est toujours à la merci d'une situation imprévue. Que ce soit une fausse manoeuvre, un autre véhicule surgissant à l'improviste, un piéton à éviter, de mauvaises conditions de route ou un assaut direct, le risque de collision est omniprésent.
Les photos présentées ici ont pour but de vous sensibiliser à un des aspects dangereux du travail de policier. Ce n'est pas un musée des horreurs, ici il n'y a que de la tôle froissée et des blessures mineures. Chaque jour le policier met sa vie en péril en tentant de protéger celle des citoyens.
Ces photos se veulent un élément de réflexion sur les dangers inhérents au travail du policier patrouilleur.

 A police officer faces many dangers. one of them is the risk of a traffic accident while patrolling. Most people mistakenly think that the officer’s work is easy, spending the day comfortably sitting in their big patrol cars giving out tickets. The duties of the police officer is primarily to insure the protection of the population, fight crime and to be present in situation of conflict and danger.

The patrolmen are constantly responding to emergency calls. While responding to those calls officers must assume that the situation is such that immediate action is needed using light and siren even when the outcome is a falls alarm.

With a rigorous training he is able to keep complete control of his vehicle even in the most complex of urban traffic flow, making the security and safety of all other motorist has well of his own a priority.

He is in that same state of mine when engaging in extreme situation. A high-speed pursuit will give the officers senses a rush of adrenaline making him even more aware of the eminent danger that he and the public are facing.

In spite of his dexterity, his competence, his composure and quick reflexes, he is always at the mercy of unforeseen situation, from a bad maneuver to a car suddenly coming out of nowhere, a pedestrian to avoid or just the bad road condition, the risk of being involved in a traffic collision is always present.

The photos presented here are intended to reflect on just how dangerous this aspect of police work can be. It’s not a horror show museum. Only twisted metal and minor injuries.

Everyday police officers risk their lives in order to protect and serve the public, these photos are a reminder of one of the danger they face day after day.

Un véhicule de la police de Ottawa accidenté le 26 août 2003 alors que l'Agent répondait à un appel d'urgence et que sa route fut coupée par un automobiliste.

RCMP Van vs. Bull Moose
My stepdad was driving home from a prisoner transport when he swerved to avoid a moose on one side of the road when he hit another one on the opposite side of the road. The van was completely wrecked and the airbags did not even go off. This happened 2 kilometers outside of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada on Nov 14th. 2006 on the Trans Canada Highway. The officer was returning to the station after a night shift when a drunk driver failed to stop at a red light on a cross street
and struck the pc just behind the drivers door. The pc was shoved across the street where the passenger side wheels caught the curb causing the pc to flip onto its roof. The pc came to rest in a gas station. The officer was trapped in the vehicle until the fire dept arrived and cut open the driver side door. The officer received a serious laceration across his head from
the shotgun rack but was otherwise ok.
